Event ID 30 and 37 with the source DMIO in the error log

Event ID 30 and 37 with a source of "DMIO" is indicative of an input/output error from one or several of the disk drives. These errors can come from a variety of sources, but the most common causes are:

• A corrupted data partition.
• A physically damaged hard disk.

To test for both, and solve the problem if related to corruption, a system restore is required.

To restore the Ethernet Disk Gigabit, the following tools will be required.

• A USB CD or DVD ROM drive.
• A monitor with a standard 15 pin VGA connector present on most monitors (also called a "DB15" connector.)
• A PS2 or USB Keyboard.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Following the procedure below will ERASE ALL DATA on the drive. Prior to following these directions, verify important data is stored securely on a different storage device.

Included with the drive was the original factory install CD ROM. This disc is also available from the LaCie website. Additionally, the latest version of the Ethernet Disk's Windows XP Embedded OS can be downloaded at no cost. CLICK HERE to go to the page on our website with the downloadable CD images.

Regarding the latest version, ensure the proper download is selected. There have been several motherboard revisions and updates throughout the Ethernet Disk Gigabit's life cycle. Presently supported models are:

• Via Technologies system board using PATA hard disks.
• ECS system board using PATA hard disks.
• ECS system board using SATA hard disks.

Each has a separate installer disc, as the hardware differences force each model to use a slightly different operating system. Determining which hardware is in use can be difficult, however, there are subtle differences between each model that can allow each to be identified.

The latest version (the ECS SATA setup) does not have a network expansion card, but rather, the network port is near the other connections (the serial and video connections.) In the location where an expansion card would be, there is a blank silver panel. Look at the back of the drive to see this.

The ECS PATA and Via PATA units look similar physically, but have a different amount of USB ports. ECS PATA units have four USB ports, whereas Via PATA units have only two

If a downloaded version of the restore CD is used, use burning software to make the .ISO disc.

On Macintosh, use Disk Utility to burn the image.

1. Open Disk Utility. This program can be found in the Utilities folder, which is inside the Applications folder.
2. From the "File" menu, choose "Open Disk Image" and select the ISO to be burned.
3. In the list of volumes on the left side, a new item representing the installer disk will show. Click on it.
4. Click the "Burn" button, and follow the instructions.

On Windows, use burning software. Roxio Easy Media Creator is suggested.

Once the proper restore CD has been made, place it inside the USB CDROM drive and connect it to a port on the Ethernet Disk. Connect the Monitor and Keyboard as well. When ready, power on the Ethernet Disk. The process is automated, but it can be observed with a monitor connected to the LaCie.

Note: On the latest version, an option is presented asking whether to "Repair" or "Restore" the image. Choose the appropriate option.
